Habits also matter. Brushing your teeth immediately after consuming acidic foods or drinks can unintentionally speed up erosion, as the softened enamel can be brushed away more easily. Instead, it’s better to rinse your mouth with water and wait about 30 minutes before brushing.

Thankfully, dental erosion is largely preventable. Simple changes in your daily routine can significantly protect your enamel. For example, limiting your intake of acidic beverages or drinking them through a straw helps reduce contact with your teeth. Also, increasing water intake can dilute acids and boost saliva production.

Incorporating enamel-strengthening products, like fluoride toothpaste or mouthwash, can further protect your teeth from erosion. Regular dental check-ups are essential too, as your dentist can identify early signs of erosion and recommend specific treatments or adjustments in your oral care routine.
