The Canadian Dental Care Plan (CDCP) is a government program aimed at providing affordable dental care to Canadians who do not have access to dental insurance and have a household income of less than $90,000. The plan covers a wide range of dental services, from routine check-ups to more complex procedures, depending on your eligibility and income level.
To qualify for the CDCP, you must meet the following criteria:
- No Access to Dental Insurance: You must not have any dental coverage through an employer, a spouse’s or family member’s plan, or a purchased plan.
- Canadian Resident: You must be a Canadian resident for tax purposes.
- Income Requirements: Your household’s adjusted annual net income must be below $90,000.
- Tax Filings: You must have filed your tax return for the previous year.
The amount of coverage you receive under the CDCP depends on your household income:
- Income under $70,000: 100% of eligible dental care costs are covered.
- Income between $70,000 and $79,999: 60% of eligible dental care costs are covered.
- Income between $80,000 and $89,999: 40% of eligible dental care costs are covered.
Please note that some dental procedures may require preauthorization, and there may be additional out-of-pocket costs if the treatment exceeds the CDCP-established fees.

Applying for the CDCP is straightforward:
- Check Eligibility: Visit the Government of Canada’s CDCP page to ensure you meet all eligibility requirements.
- Submit Application: Complete the online application form provided by the Government of Canada.
- Receive Your Welcome Package: Once your application is approved, you will receive a welcome package from Sun Life within three months, which includes your member card and details of your coverage.
As a CDCP participant, you can receive your dental care at Dr. Salim Kapadia Dental Centre without worrying about high costs. Here’s what you can expect:
- Direct Billing: We will bill Sun Life directly for the services covered by the CDCP, so you don’t have to handle paperwork.
- Personalized Care: Our experienced team will work with you to create a dental care plan that meets your needs and fits within the CDCP coverage.
- Transparent Costs: We’ll discuss any additional costs upfront, so there are no surprises.
